Have you ever wondered about the different style of roofings that your house has? Each kind of roof provides a special function to your house. Similarly, there are different roof styles for your conservatories. Let us help you pick your ideal roof style that matches your ambience.

What is a Conservatory Roof?

A conservatory is an extended area of the house that is used as greenhouses, sun-lounges, etc. It is mostly encapsulated in a glass room where sunlight can be easily accessed. It is used to grow plants in a controlled environment as well as used as an extension of one’s sitting area to make the property more aesthetic. The roof of the conservatory is called a conservatory roof. It  is usually different from the rest of the house as it serves a specific purpose to the room. The conservatory roof style can be of various types. Let’s have a look.

Types of Conservatory Roof

1.   Glass Roof

The most popular conservatory roof style is glass roof. Its most prominent feature is that it lets most of the sunlight in, which is most wanted by the house owners. The glass roof offers durability. With new developments in the quality of glass, it’s more tough and can be trusted upon. It is easy to clean and offers a beautiful look. Unlike other roof styles, a single glass panel can be replaced, rather than pulling down the entire roof. The glass helps in having a glare-free sight of the surroundings due to its transparency. Good quality glass roofs are insulated which means that they are cool in summer and warm in winter.

2.   Polycarbonate roofs

This roof style is one of the most affordable options. It is made from layers of plastic which acts as an insulator and keeps the conservatory warm. The air is trapped in between each layer, which heats up the room. Once installed, it is sure to last for a decade. However, this conservatory roof style is not preferred, since it has some issues. Its insulation feature is quite problematic in summer, as there is no control over the warm temperature that it creates. In the rainy season, there are chances of water leaking so you cannot expect to sleep under this roof.

3.   Tiled Roof

Tiled roof style is the most preferred roof style by many. Since it is hassle free and includes many amazing features, it is the go-to choice of most buyers. Unlike the two other roofing styles mentioned above, tiled roofs offer the utmost privacy. With its designing structure, it is easily blendable with the rest of the house, so it doesn’t feel like there’s a separation of the conservatory. It is encapsulated using glazed panels which makes the overall outlook aesthetic. The durability of this material also provides strength against external climate. It is highly water resistant and is good at minimising heating. It also minimises the external noise and is an eco-friendly alternative out of all.

4.   Lantern-style roof

This type of roof style makes the conservatory look bigger. Due to its shape, it enhances the flat roof structure. It has cool features like solar glazing, which means that it can deflect the UV rays of the sun. Most lantern style roofs have self-cleaning glass mechanisms which provides comfort and hassle-free maintenance to the house owners. It modulates the optimal temperature, so it’s cool in summer and warm in winter. It has channels of ventilation which are very effective. It keeps the entire room lit due to its glass structure. Lastly, it is weather-proof and can withstand difficult climate conditions.

Conclusion

Out of all the roof styles mentioned above, your main focus should be on both your budget and the outcome that you can achieve. Your privacy shouldn’t be compromised and your conservatory roof should be able to withstand harsh climates. You can easily blend your conservatory roof with the rest of the house or you can choose to keep it different and unique.
